Applying to the UVa School of Nursing

Undergraduate

• You're a high school graduate, or will be soon (traditional BSN program for first-year entry)
• You're a transfer student from another major or another college or university (BSN program for transfer students)
• You’re a registered nurse (RN) with an associates degree or diploma and would like to advance your career or professional commitment to nursing (RN-to-BSN program)

Graduate

• You have a bachelor's or graduate degree in a field other than nursing and are looking for a career change (Clinical Nurse Leader program)
• You have a BSN degree and want to advance your nursing career with a master's degree (MSN program)
• You have a MSN degree, and seek certification in an additional nursing specialty (post-MSN programs)
• You have a BSN or master's degree in nursing and want a doctoral degree in nursing or nursing practice (PhD or DNP programs)
• You have a BSN or MSN degree and want to take a course on a non-degree basis (Special Student Status)
• You want to do post-doctoral work in nursing (post-doctoral fellowships)

Admissions Deadlines

Most nursing degree programs have specific admission application deadlines. You are welcome to submit the online application before the dates listed below. The undergraduate, Clinical Nurse Leader, and DNP admissions committees start reviewing files after the set deadlines. The other graduate programs operate on a rolling admissions basis.

Open Houses & Information Sessions

Thank you for your interest in the School of Nursing.  We host general information sessions about the undergraduate and graduate programs throughout the year. These sessions provide information on the school's academic programs, admissions requirements, and financial aid along with break-out sessions with faculty and students. A tour of the nursing school is also conducted. These information sessions are held in the School of Nursing building (McLeod Hall) - click here for parking information and directions.

Please RSVP to nur-osa@virginia.edu or call 1-888-283-8703 with the date you plan to attend and your academic program of interest (BSN, MSN, post-MSN, PhD, or DNP).

Note that parking is free after 5:00pm in McLeod Hall garage.

In addition, for those looking for more specialized information about specific programs, the Internal Transfer, RN-to-BSN, DNP, and PhD program directors also host information sessions during the academic year about their respective programs. All of these sessions will be held in McLeod Hall. The dates/times for these sessions are:

Admissions Room Chatroom

The Assistant Deans for Student Services hosts two sessions in the Admissions & Student Services chatroom each week. Pop in and learn more about the undergraduate or graduate programs, the admissions requirements, financial aid, career prospects, or anything that is on your mind. These sessions are held at:

        Tuesdays, noon-1pm (Eastern time)
        Wednesdays, 8pm-9pm (Eastern time)
 

Admissions Blog

The Assistant Deans administer an Admissions Blog that will give you a picture of the admissions process for the various nursing programs. You can access it at http://uvanursing.blogspot.com/

Admissions & Recruitment Travel

Representatives of the Office of Admissions & Student Services attend conferences, and visit area hospitals, colleges, and universities to provide information about our academic programs.
