NSWB at El Salvador Clinic Groundbreaking

Date released: 03 Nov 2008

NSWB and Cruz Roja volunteers On October 11, 2008, the UVA Nursing Students Without Borders and faculty participated in the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Cruz Roja Clinic in El Salvador.  The students are heavily invested in their project in El Salvador, where they are building a new facility for the clinic that is the only 24/7 source of health care for the people in that area.  They have raised enough money to begin the construction and build the first floor, and are currently trying to raise funds for the much-needed second floor that is on the drawing board.

NSWB will host a "virtual" groundbreaking at the Claude Moore Nursing Education Building on November 15 for people who were not able to attend the festivities in El Salvador.  They expect to show footage of the October 11 event, offer Salvadoran music and refreshments, and discuss their future plans.  Anyone interested in attending, please call Janice Martin at 434-924-0141.

NSWB is also working to develop local partnerships to help deliver health care to people without access.  Members of the organization are available to give presentations for local organizations.
