Graduate Special Student Status

Individuals with BSN degrees may enroll in one or two classes on a non-degree basis as a special student. Acceptance is on a space-available basis, and special students may only enroll in didactic classes.

Acceptance as a Special Student does not increase or decrease your chances to be accepted as a degree student. Acceptance as a special student does not infer that you will be accepted to a degree program, or Post-Masters certificate program.

MSN classes: Special students may enroll a maximum of two classes (either two in one term, or one each in two terms). Courses often taken as a special student include Pathophysiology (GNUR 584), one of the four MSN core classes, Role I: Acquisition (GNUR 574) or graduate-level electives. Pharmacology and Advanced Health Assessment are not available to special students.

Doctoral classes (GNUR 800 or above): Students may take only one doctoral-level class per semester. Applicants will need to obtain the permission of the individual course instructor to enroll in the course. GNUR 814 is recommended as a first course to take if you are considering the PhD program. If you are considering the DNP program, please contact the Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Services to inquire about space availability.

Students who receive a failing grade in a course as a Special Student will not be permitted to take additional courses in the School of Nursing as a special student.
