NP History Awards in Research or Preservation
For 2024, the Bjoring Center invites applications for two separate awards related to the history of nurse practitioners. Each award provides up to $5,000 of support to students, faculty, nurse practitioners, archivists, and scholars and researchers in nursing, health care, or a related field.
The deadline for proposals is June 1, 2024.
30th Anniversary Research Fellowship
The Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry invites applications for the 30th Anniversary Research Fellowship. This fellowship enables scholars to pursue research in the library and archival collections of the Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry and other archival collections at the University of Virginia. The fellowship is named in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Bjoring Center, which was established in 1992 at the University of Virginia School of Nursing.
The 30th Anniversary Research Fellowship supports scholarly work on the history of nursing and health care that uses the research collections at the Bjoring Center and the University of Virginia. It provides up to $3,000 of support to doctoral students, faculty, and independent researchers from all disciplines, based on evidence of preparation or productivity in historical research related to the history of nursing and health care.
The deadline for proposals is January 15, 2024, with the intention that the recipient will use the award during the 2024 calendar year.
Barbara Brodie Nursing History Fellowship
The Barbara Brodie Nursing History Fellowship, a postdoctoral award, is open to nurses engaged in historical scholarship that advances the field of nursing history. Applications for the $3,000 award are due January 15, 2024, and the recipient will be announced in the spring of 2024. The selected Barbara Brodie Nursing History Fellow is expected to provide a research report from the funded project a year after receiving the award.
Selection of the fellow will be based on the scholarly quality of the investigator's project, including the clarity of the project's purpose, its rationale and significance, the rigor of its methodology and questions posed, and its potential contributions to the field of nursing history.
