Inaugural Landin Family Nursing Summit Brings Together UVA Nursing Leadership
The UVA School of Nursing joined nursing leaders from across the health system for the inaugural Landin Family Nursing Summit, held Friday, March 6, 2026.
Marking a historic moment for nursing at UVA, the summit brought together leadership teams from UVA School of Nursing, UVA Health University Medical Center, and UVA Community Health for the first time, with Dean Marianne Baernholdt, Kathy Baker, chief nursing officer at UVA Health University Medical Center, and Michelle Strider, chief nursing officer of UVA Community Health, among those in attendance. The gathering created an important opportunity for academic and clinical leaders to reflect on their shared mission and explore the future of nursing across the UVA health system.
The summit was made possible through the generosity and longstanding commitment of Susan and David Landin, whose support of nursing at UVA spans decades. David Landin, a double Hoo, joined the UVA Health Foundation Board in 2023 and currently serves as its vice chair. Susan Landin, a triple nursing Hoo, is a former clinical nurse and assistant head nurse at UVA Medical Center, a former School of Nursing faculty member and clinical instructor, a past president of the Nursing Alumni Association, and an emeritus trustee of the UVA Health Foundation. Together, the Landins have been enduring champions of nursing education, leadership, and practice across UVA.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in discussions centered on relational leadership, collaboration, innovation, and leading through change. Designed to foster connection and shared learning, the summit strengthened partnerships across nursing roles and settings and laid the groundwork for continued collaboration.
For Dean Baernholdt, the summit reflected both the strength of existing partnerships and the promise of what lies ahead. “I left energized by what we can accomplish together and excited for the next chapter of nursing leadership at UVA,” she said.
