Nurse Scientist Jeanne Alhusen Pushes for Support for Nursing Science at Congressional Briefing
Associate dean for nursing research Jeanne Alhusen - disability rights advocate, a family nurse practitioner, and an NIH-funded nurse scientist - spoke out July 22, 2025, on Capitol Hill with colleagues including alumnus Michael Cary (PhD ’12), Duke University School of Nursing, Dean Toni Villarruel, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and patient advocate, Ms. Joseph, on the inextricable ties between quality patient care and nursing science.
The group was joined by Illinois Congressional Rep. Lauren Underwood, a fierce champion of nursing science, nurses, and health, at the event, "Powered by Evidence," which was organized by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the American Academy of Nursing. Goal 3 - Position the School as a leader in nursing science, from discovery to translation
The School’s researchers seek to address some of the most pressing health inequities of our time by leading groundbreaking investigations, disseminating findings in ways that impact our local and global communities, and by recruiting and supporting nurse scientists at all career stages. The benefits of nursing science engage all our faculty and learners, supporting diverse scholarly and dissemination efforts. Our undergraduate and graduate curricula require students to engage in research and other scholarly endeavors and by offering opportunities for them to collaborate with mentors and peers to disseminate their work.
