Celebrating National Nurses Week Beyond Our Walls
As National Nurses Week continues, the University of Virginia School of Nursing is recognizing the dedication of its faculty, staff, and students at a moment filled with accomplishment and anticipation. With final exams wrapping up, graduation preparations underway, and the work of the academic year coming into full view, this time reflects the collective effort, care, and commitment that define nursing education and practice every day. In keeping with that spirit, the School is once again turning outward to support the broader community.
In recognition of National Nurses Week, the School of Nursing will make a donation to Innisfree Village, a lifesharing community in Crozet, Virginia, that supports adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities through intentional community living, meaningful work, and caring relationships. Innisfree has a long standing relationship with the School of Nursing, welcoming prelicensure students into its community and contributing to their understanding of person-centered care.
The donation is made in honor of the School’s faculty, staff, and students, whose work reflects enduring values of compassion, dignity, and community.
The School of Nursing has marked Nurses Week in a similar spirit in previous years, supporting organizations such as The Haven, a day shelter for people experiencing homelessness, and Birth Sisters of Charlottesville, a community-based doula collective that supports women of color through pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood.
National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6–12 to recognize the vital contributions of nurses and those educating the next generation of the profession.
