Biography

Dawn Bourne (she/her) is an assistant professor, a proud "triple Hoo," and a first-generation college student who began her nursing career in the medical ICU at UVA Health University Medical Center before returning to school to become a family nurse practitioner.

As a primary care clinician, she has worked across a variety of practice settings, including in private practice, at a community health clinic, in a family medicine clinic, and as a provider at UVA's Student Health and Wellness.  She has been a member of UVA Health's ethics and moral distress consult service since 2016, when she completed her doctoral work on the experience of moral distress in primary care providers, and teaches both undergraduate and graduate nursing students while practicing part-time at UVA Family Medicine.
