
Victoria Marie Petermann, PhD, RN
Biography
Dr. Petermann's research focuses on understanding barriers to receiving quality cancer care, particularly among rural populations. She is an experienced RN in gynecologic oncology, and the bulk of her program of research focuses on barriers to care for patients with gynecologic cancers. Dr. Petermann is skilled in mixed-methods work - her current work leverages using insurance claims databases to evaluate spatial variability in delays in uterine cancer diagnosis and qualitative interviewing to understand the patient experience of uterine cancer symptom recognition and accessing care for evaluation. She also has experience and is interested in using implementation science to design and evaluate multi-level interventions to improve access to care.
Dr. Petermann is a triple Tarheel, she earned her Women's Studies BA with a minor in Geography, BSN, and PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a predoctoral fellow in the Cancer Control Education Program (T32CA057726-27) and was part of the 5th cohort of the Hillman Scholars in Nursing Innovation Program at UNC-CH, an integrated BSN-PhD program.
