Meet Nurse Librarian Amanda Datesman
Bass guitar player. Stand-up paddleboarder. Huge fan of basketball and her cat, Mr. Pillow Pants. Former neonatal ICU and student health nurse, Indiana native, and a recovering classics major (“All that Latin and Greek were very useful when I decided to pivot into healthcare!”). Now the School of Nursing librarian, succeeding Dan Wilson, now deputy librarian, in the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library.
"I’m a nursing librarian, but also a nurse librarian. I decided to become a librarian because I got excited about evidence-based practice and the critical role of information in the clinical and research setting."
Amanda Datesman on her new role at UVA.
FAVORITE PART OF HER UVA JOB?
“UVA is a leader in clinical care and innovative research and it’s inspiring to get to be part of that. I’m a nursing librarian, but also a nurse librarian. I decided to become a librarian because I got excited about evidence-based practice and the critical role of information in the clinical and research setting. Medical knowledge expands rapidly and librarians have a real role to light the way.”
“I love helping prepare nursing students to become curious nurses who will provide evidence-based care and continually improve the quality of healthcare delivery. The School of Nursing is known for educating first-rate, impactful research, and our scientists are working on exciting projects. As a nurse, getting to work with them is especially meaningful because I understand many of the problems their research seeks to address and can see the impact that their work will have on the future of our healthcare system.”
