Malinda Whitlow
Whitlow, an RN to BSN and DNP graduate, returned to UVA to direct the School's growing RN to BSN program.

Native Texan. High school drum player. First nurse in her family, and a first-generation college student. Daughter to an exceptional South Korean single mom who learned to speak English by watching TV. Dave Matthews Band superfan. Decided to become a nurse after being hospitalized for three days in 8th grade with pneumonia. Director of the RN to BSN program, a DNP alumna, PhD student, and a steadfast UVA Health clinician before, during, and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic recently honored at UVA's final men's basketball game.

BEST PART OF HER JOB?

"My interaction with students! I love to see students have 'ah-ha' moments and apply what they learn from the classroom into the clinical setting. Faculty and staff at the School are extraordinary, too; the community feels like a second home. My colleagues bring joy to the work and teaching environment."

THE SCHOOL OF NURSING IN A SINGLE WORD?

"Transformational. The School inspires positive changes and is compassionate about the success of students, faculty, and staff. It’s also a leader in supporting students so they’re intellectually stimulated and confident in the classroom and in clinical practice.”
