A nursing student

Meet Molly.

Former professional ballet dancer. Die-hard Mets fan. A "Third Culture Kid" who grew up between New York, North Carolina, and Indonesia who speaks Indonesian. BSN Class of 2024 graduate, a Distinguished Major, mentee of nurse scientist Emma Mitchell, and an emerging cancer scholar whose research on men and the HPV vaccine whet her appetite to enroll in the PhD program.

"Here, I’ve grown not only in skill but also in heart."

Molly Yeo describes how she has grown from the culture at UVA School of Nursing

One of four graduate student ambassadors. This week, presenting her study of school nurses' perceptions of the HPV vaccine at the Virginia Public Health Association Conference in Richmond.

WHY UVA, AND WHY NURSING?

"At UVA, I’ve found a culture of pursuing excellence for the greater good. It’s not just what we do but how we do it that matters. Honor, service, and excellence are values that define our university. Here, I’ve grown not only in skill but also in heart. I chose nursing because, even on the hardest day, it is a privilege to care for someone and bear witness to some of the happiest and saddest moments of a life."

WHAT THE PHD PROGRAM IS LIKE

"The faculty here are unparalleled. We have the opportunity to be mentored by world-class scholars who care about us becoming ethical and inquisitive nurse scientists. The training in the PhD program equips us to go out into the world and contribute in our own unique ways, and the support we receive here makes the possibilities endless."

UVA SCHOOL OF NURSING IN A WORD?

"TRANSFORMATIVE. Since coming to UVA, I’ve grown and been challenged more than I could have imagined. This is a transformative place full of inspiring people that will change you for the better. I have grown in skill, knowledge, and heart here.
