WHY NURSING AT UVA?

“From the moment I first visited during ‘Days on the Lawn,’ I knew I wanted to go to UVA. I chose UVA's BSN program because of its direct-entry structure, its exceptional reputation, and the supportive faculty who make me feel like I truly belong. Beginning clinical rotations in my second year has given me valuable hands-on experience, extensive clinical hours, a strong foundation in patient-centered care, and the opportunity to earn my bachelor’s in four years – which allows me to enter the workforce quickly. UVA’s top-tier nursing curriculum and support system have fully prepared me for my future nursing career, and I am confident I will graduate as a skilled, empathetic, and compassionate nurse.”

"The School has opened my eyes to the endless possibilities within the nursing profession and the countless opportunities for personal and professional growth. From the variety of clinical rotations, including experiences in the NICU, critical care, and community health, to shadowing opportunities that provide first-hand exposure to different specialties, UVA has helped me explore the vast scope of nursing.”

WHAT’S NURSING SCHOOL LIKE?

“Transformative! From hours of realistic medical scenarios in sim lab to clinical rotations in med-surg, pediatrics, OB, and psych, I have learned so many new nursing skills over the last few semesters, ranging from medication administration, catheter insertion, head-to-toe assessments, and even what to do during a postpartum hemorrhage."

“The School also has fostered confidence, especially with the help from my outstanding clinical instructors. Thanks to the rigorous curriculum and hands-on experiences both in and out of the hospital, I’ve found a passion for pediatrics as I offer support, empathy, and advocacy for children during their most vulnerable moments.”

WHAT SETS UVA APART?

“UVA School of Nursing has it all: From the lifelong friendships I’ve made to the amazing opportunities and resources offered to students to the incredible educators who have shaped me into an advocate for future patients."

“The faculty here truly want to see us succeed, and always go the extra mile to help us become our best selves, especially my advisor (senior associate dean of students) “T.C.” (Theresa Carroll) who has even welcomed me into her home on the Lawn for Thanksgiving."

“The sense of community at the School is unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. Through the challenges of the past few years, we always come together, offering unwavering support for one another, which constantly reminds me why I chose this amazing School, and why others should as well!”

UVA SCHOOL OF NURSING IN ONE WORD

“POSSIBILITIES. The School has opened my eyes to the endless possibilities within the nursing profession and the countless opportunities for personal and professional growth. From the variety of clinical rotations, including experiences in the NICU, critical care, and community health, to shadowing opportunities that provide first-hand exposure to different specialties, UVA has helped me explore the vast scope of nursing.”

“Beyond clinicals, I've had the chance to get involved in student governance, lead tours for prospective students, and even study abroad. UVA has not only shown me that anything is possible but has also given me the skills and confidence to believe in my own abilities. Whether I choose to eventually become a travel nurse, a nurse practitioner, or a clinical nurse leader, I know that my education here has prepared me for an exciting future filled with opportunities to grow, lead, and make a difference.”
